As a mom, you are always looking for ways to keep your family healthy.

You buy organic produce, cook at home, and make sure everyone gets plenty of exercise.

But did you know that there is one simple, all-natural product that can help boost your family’s immune system?

Elderberry syrup has been shown to be effective in treating and preventing colds and flu, so it is a great way to keep your family healthy all winter long.

How Elderberry Syrup Works

Elderberries are rich in vitamins A, B, and C, as well as antioxidants.

These nutrients work together to boost the immune system and fight off infections.

Elderberry syrup can be taken at the first sign of a cold or flu, or used as a preventative measure throughout the winter months.

If you are looking for an elderberry syrup recipe, you can find many online.

Homemade elderberry syrup is easier to make than you might think, and it is also more budget-friendly than store-bought varieties.

Plus, when you make your own elderberry syrup, you can control the ingredients and ensure that it is free of artificial sweeteners and preservatives.

I make my Elderberry Syrup in my Instant Pot.  It’s super quick and easy to make this way but if you don’t have an Instant Pot, you can also make it on the stove, and I’ll share instructions for each method.

Instant Pot Elderberry Syrup

1/2 cup dried elderberries

1/2 cup NingXia wolfberries

1-4 cinnamon sticks

4 cups filtered water

1 cup local or raw honey

4 drops each – Lemon, Orange, Thieves, Copaiba Vitality essential oils

Directions:

This recipe yields 3 cups Elderberry Syrup and takes about 45 minutes to prep and make using an Instant Pot.

Add the wolfberries, elderberries, cinnamon sticks, and filtered water to your Instant Pot.  Pop the top on, seal and cook on high pressure for 7 minutes.  Allow for the natural release method and wait for another 15 minutes to open the lid.

Strain the liquid out through a strainer into a glass pitcher (yield at this stage is around 4 cups of liquid).

Pour the strained liquid back into the Instant Pot and hit the sauté button.  The liquid will come to a roaring boil.  Reduce down by half.  This process should take about 15-20 minutes.  The yield should be about 2 cups.

Pour out the liquid into a glass container and add in the raw honey.  Mix together with the raw honey and stir until it is all incorporated.   Yield should now be about 3 cups.   Add the oils and stir to incorporate.

Pour into a bottle or jar and store in the fridge (will stay good for many months).

Stovetop Elderberry Syrup

Put the first 4 ingredients listed above into a pot.  Heat on medium heat until mixture starts to boil.  Reduce heat to simmer and cover with a lid.  Simmer for about 1 hour stirring occasionally until the syrup has reduced by half.

Strain the liquid out through a strainer into a glass pitcher.

Allow the elderberry syrup to cool completely before whisking in the honey and essential oils.

Add the honey and essential oils; stir until it dissolves into the mixture.

Pour into a bottle or jar and store in the fridge (will stay good for many months).

SUGGESTED USE: Adults take 1 tablespoon every day. Increase to every 2-3 hours when you need an extra boost. Children 1-9 years take 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per day. Not for children under 1 year.

Elderberry syrup is a great way to keep your family healthy all winter long.

It is easy to make at home with just a few simple ingredients, and it is much more budget-friendly than store-bought varieties.

Give homemade elderberry syrup a try this winter! Your family (and your wallet) will thank you.
